The last week of July saw an exciting event for English Music Academy. Our first collaboration with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra http://www.myohk.org was held at the Kellett School, Hong Kong, https://www.kellettschool.com a superb British International school founded in 1976 as a not-for-profit Association to provide a high-quality British education to the English-speaking community in Hong Kong.
Twenty six young musicians spent four days working with the tutors on a variety of repertoire. Most of our music for the course was specifically arranged for the young players by David Bellwood http://musicbyarrangement.co.uk and every player rehearsed and performed in four different ensembles. In addition to this we heard many solo items in our performance class and the open mic session offered the opportunity for everyone to let their hair down and show off skills other than a principal instrument.
The final concert was a a fantastic culmination of all the hard work put in over the previous four days. The concert hall at Kellett School was the perfect venue for families and friends to hear the superb performances by all the ensembles.
Thanks to Rosita Lee and her fantastic team for organising all the logistics and preparing so thoroughly for the event. Hopefully, this will be the first of many courses we hold together with MYO in Hong Kong!
